This year, Microsoft is ending support for 2 products that were very popular: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2, as well as Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2. (Microsoft's full article here ).
SQL Server reaches end of life on July 9, while Windows Server is scheduled for January 2020.
We often hear: *ah, it's no big deal, I don't use Microsoft support.* Be that as it may! Microsoft is also going to stop producing security patches. As a result, your Microsoft SQL 2008/R2 database or your Windows Server 2008/R2 server will be at risk.
